Binders Selection of Metal Injection Molding

What is metal injection molding (MIM)? MIM is a combination of two existed technologies, powdered metal and plastic injection molding, which could achieve metal parts with high density, tight tolerance, complex structure and great strength. MIM is a near net-shaping technology, that could turn design thoughts into products with certain properties fast and accurately, besides, which is available economically for mass production. Therefore, MIM is known as a new revolution in manufacturing industry.

The feedstock of metal injection molding is composed of metal powders and plastic binders. The reason of adding to binders is to bond the metal powders, and make the feedstock flow well when heated. So selection of binders, the flow carriers of metal powders, is very important for metal injection molding.

The keys of binders selection:

1, Manufacturer should use small quantity of binders as soon as possible, to achieve satisfactory flowability.

2, Binders won’t react with metal powders in the removing process.

3, It should be easy to eliminate.
